RA Summer Exhibition 2020

This year’s Summer Exhibition has been postponed until the autumn and will run from 6th October until 3rd January. Huxley will be exhibiting three new paintings and a print.

The shapes in the paintings each imply a balancing act, often an impossible one.  Balancing acts are an ancient form of simple entertainment inspiring wonder and amusement.  But the acts are brief because the more precarious the act the sooner they will tumble down. The title, ‘Fermata’, used in these works is an Italian word that means stop or pause. It exists in the English language as a sign in musical notation instructing the performer to pause and hold the note for an extended period, as if freezing time.
